How to Incorporate Maximalism Into Your Lighting

How to Incorporate Maximalism Into Your Lighting Design

Design trends are shifting. For the past decade, minimalism and restrained neutrals have been hugely popular. After years of seeing the pared-back aesthetic everywhere, the design world is ready for a change. Maximalism is on the rise, and we're here for it! Bold, playful, exuberant and lavish, maximalism celebrates decadence with layers upon layers of pattern and vibrant color. It's pretty much the exact opposite of minimalism. Are you ready to embrace maximalism in your home or design projects? Here are five ways to incorporate it into your lighting design.

1. More is more. In a minimalist space, you might have one simple, modern chandelier with lots of empty, open space around it. Maximalism, on the other hand, is all about excess. Our favorite idea is to layer various sizes of a glass bubble chandelier at different heights, to create a statement, custom lighting design with some major "wow factor."

Consider: The Milky Way 25 Bubble Chandelier with gorgeous, hand-blown iridescent glass bubbles.

2. Bring on the color. Maximalist spaces are not afraid of color! This is a welcome change for many of us, who are tired of the overwhelming neutral palette that's popular with minimalism. Get excited to start using more bold, saturated, vivid colors again. Speaking of which...did you know that every bubble light chandelier can be customized with colorful bubbles? We have seven gorgeous color finishes, from a light blush pink to a bright jade green. Or get them all in our limited edition rainbow bubble chandelier (isn't she a beaut??).

3. Go bigger and bolder. Want to create a bespoke lighting design that truly embraces maximalism? Go bigger. A lavish, oversized statement bubble light fixture can add a touch of luxury and grandeur. While minimalists might choose pendant lighting that's simple and functional, maximalists want their lighting to be spectacular and memorable. Our branching bubble chandelier makes a unique and eye-catching centerpiece.

Consider: The Branch Glass Bubble Chandelier with 48" of clustered hand-blown glass bubbles.

4. Mix different styles & patterns. Part of what makes maximalism so engaging is the visual mix of different styles. Juxtapose a traditional ceiling with a modern bubble chandelier. Layer prints in your soft goods and textiles, from pillows, to curtains, to upholstery. This will give your rooms an interesting, bold and extravagant look.

Consider: The Smoke 25 Glass Bubble Chandelier with dark grey blue glass bubbles to add drama to your space.

5. Play with contrasting textures & materials. Another way to incorporate maximalism into your residential lighting design is to mix contrasting materials and textures, like blown glass with cotton rope, or chrome with leather. This adds tactile interest and makes your space more uniquely yours. Minimalism often looks similar from space to space, but maximalism can be more delightfully surprising.

Consider: The Chrome 31 Glass Bubble Chandelier, with a mix of clear glass bubbles and chrome finish.

One of our favorite things about maximalism: it's less restrained, and leaves a lot more room for FUN and play. Even if you still love your neutrals, consider shaking things up a little. Try a bold pattern, play with colors that you love, and let your own personality and creative style shine through.
